Why a single-day Ayurvedic retreat works for solo travelers

Solo travel often means short stays and a desire for restorative experiences that don’t require a long commitment. An Ayurvedic retreat day can be tailored to fit a few hours or a full day, giving you a focused, safe space to rest, reset, and receive professional care without the need to stay overnight. Ashtalaxmi Ayurvedic Spa in Ubud is set up for guests who want a concentrated, authentic Ayurvedic experience with knowledgeable staff and a calm setting.

Start with a consultation to personalize your day

Begin your visit with a consultation with the Ayurvedic doctor so the treatments match your needs. Guests repeatedly note that speaking with the doctor creates confidence and helps therapists tailor the massage, Shirodhara, or other therapies to individual concerns. One recent guest specifically described how the doctor’s explanations and follow-up made them feel completely at ease and supported throughout their visit, which is especially reassuring when you’re traveling alone.

Build the core of your retreat: therapies to combine

A balanced retreat day typically pairs one or two hands-on therapies with a restorative oil pouring or specialized treatment. Popular combinations at this spa include Abhyanga (full-body oil massage) followed by Shirodhara (gentle oil pouring to the forehead). Other complementary options mentioned by guests include Takradhara, facials, steam therapies, detox-focused sessions, and curated spa packages. Choose treatments that address your immediate needs—deep relaxation, sleep support, or skin renewal—and let the consultation guide the sequence.

Structure your day for rest and integration

Plan your visit so there is time to arrive, settle in, and move slowly through treatment and recovery. After the hands-on therapies and any oil-based procedures, allow for quiet time to rest in the spa’s serene surroundings. Many guests stay afterwards to enjoy the on-site restaurant and a mindful meal, which helps with grounding and digestion following treatments. If you’re short on time, prioritize the consultation and one core therapy, then extend your visit when possible to include the meal and a period of gentle rest.

What to expect at Ashtalaxmi: atmosphere and hospitality

Guests consistently describe the spa as a peaceful, beautifully decorated sanctuary with warm, attentive staff and skilled therapists. Reviews highlight the careful, professional approach of therapists and the supportive role of the Ayurvedic doctor—some guests have called certain therapists’ hands “magical.” Treatments typically include a complementary Ayurvedic meal, which many visitors praise as wholesome and thoughtfully prepared. A small number of visitors have noted temporary external construction noise near the property; if noise sensitivity is a concern, you can ask staff about quieter spaces or music options during your session.

Practical tips for solo visitors to feel comfortable

Communicate any concerns or sensitivities during the consultation so therapists can adapt pressure, music, or oils. Let staff know if you prefer a female or male therapist where that option is available, and ask about privacy for changing and showering. If you want extra reassurance, mention that you are traveling alone—staff are experienced in welcoming solo guests and can check in after treatment or explain aftercare recommendations. Also ask about included meals and dietary needs when you book, so the kitchen can prepare something suitable.

Booking and getting there

Ashtalaxmi Ayurvedic Spa is located in Ubud and welcomes guests who have only a short window for wellness. Because treatments are personalized and space can fill quickly, book in advance and indicate that you are planning a retreat day so staff can reserve adequate time for consultation, therapy, and a relaxed post-treatment meal. When you arrive, allow time to breathe and orient yourself to the tranquil setting before your consultation begins.

Customer review

I absolutely love this little gem! Everything about it - the interior, the staff, the decor, the location, the peacefulness. One of my favourite spas in ubud. Dr Arun was incredibly helpful and informative about the treatment I was having and made me feel completely at ease. He is incredibly knowledgeable and I really felt like he went the extra mile to ensure my time there was as relaxing and as healing as possible. He also throughly explained aftercare and came to see me after the treatment to see how it was. I also had dinner at their restaurant after which is INCREDIBLY tasty food! Highly recommend Thank you so much and hopefully see you again when I return to bali
