Savoring Saputara: Finding Resorts with Jain and Swaminarayan Culinary Options

Navigating Dietary Needs in Saputara

For many travelers, particularly those adhering to Jain or Swaminarayan dietary principles, finding suitable food options is a crucial aspect of planning any trip. Saputara, a serene hill station, offers a tranquil escape, and ensuring your culinary requirements are met can significantly enhance your experience. It's important to select accommodations that not only provide comfort and scenic beauty but also demonstrate an understanding and willingness to cater to specific religious and vegetarian dietary needs.

Understanding Jain and Swaminarayan Dietary Principles

Jain and Swaminarayan diets are distinct forms of vegetarianism, often requiring food prepared without root vegetables like onion, garlic, potatoes, and carrots, among other specific considerations. This necessitates careful preparation and ingredient sourcing, which not all establishments are equipped to handle. Therefore, proactive communication with your chosen resort is key to a satisfying dining experience.

Communicating Your Preferences Effectively

Before finalizing your booking, it is highly advisable to directly contact the resort to discuss your dietary requirements. Clearly articulate whether you require Jain food (which excludes root vegetables and certain other items) or Swaminarayan food (which has similar, though sometimes slightly different, restrictions). Inquire about their kitchen's capability to prepare separate meals, the availability of dedicated cooking areas, or specific menu items that already align with these diets. This upfront conversation helps manage expectations and ensures the resort can adequately prepare for your arrival.

Customer review

Overall, we had a really good experience here! The rooms were clean and well-maintained, though the bed felt a bit small for a family with kid however 7 year child free so thanks. For two people, it’s just right. Hand towels and a dustbin should ideally be in the bathroom by default, but the staff provided them when we asked. The food was tasty and matched our preferences as we enjoyed jain/swaminarayan food, and they also offered complimentary hi-tea as per our booking. Hot water is available 24 hours, though it takes a little while to start. A darker curtain would help since the room still stays a bit bright in the afternoon. The location is about 5 km from Saputara, so I’d suggest starting breakfast around 7 AM for convenience. There’s decent parking space too. Visited in December, so couldn’t enjoy the swimming pool, but overall, the stay was pleasant. The staff were polite, humble, and always ready to help. **Pros:** Clean and peaceful place, helpful staff, good food options (hi-tea, breakfast, lunch, dinner). **Cons:** Slightly away from Saputara (around 5 km).
